One of America's largest auto parts distribution companies needed a way to improve the efficiency and accuracy of its deliveries. It wanted the latest mobile technology in the hands of the drivers who take parts to hundreds of service centers across the country every day. The use cases included better inventory management, turn-by-turn directions, and the ability for customers to see exactly where orders are and when they will arrive.

While the company is an expert on car parts, it didn't have the internal expertise and resources to design, deploy, and manage a mobile device program on the required scale. So, Stratix solution architects put their heads together with Verizon subject matter experts to design a mobile program using Samsung Galaxy tablets on Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband network. The devices were kitted and configured at Stratix's Mobile Integration Center with Elite Extra last-mile logistics software, a rugged case, and other peripherals. They were delivered to distribution centers out-of-the-box ready so that drivers just needed to turn them on, log in, and be on their way.

Most issues are handled with a phone call, which keeps devices from being returned for repair if they don't actually need it—lowering costs. Stratix also handles full lifecycle services for the company so that the devices are regularly refreshed every two years for peak performance.
Drivers are using the tablets to take the quickest routes to their delivery stops. Service centers can see exactly where the drivers are and when they're expected to arrive. That helps them efficiently plan their workflows and give customers more accurate estimates for when their vehicles will be ready. When drivers make a delivery, the barcode-scanning function in the tablet confirms the right packages are dropped off, and the data is automatically fed into the company's inventory management systems via the Verizon cellular network.
Now well into the deployment, the auto parts distribution company is seeing faster deliveries, happy customers, and more useful data that it's utilizing to improve the efficiency of its supply chain operations. With the ongoing success, the company is expanding the program to more locations across the country and is expecting to double the initial program.
